Commissioning a Painting

Portrait commissions are one of the things I most enjoy doing. It is always fascinating to spend time with you as you sit for a portrait and try to capture in paint or another medium including `painting straight into my computer, some essence of your personality.

I often use photography for reference but I also paint from life as I do for my self-portraits. The changes in expression and other personal characteristics are impossible to capture in single image photography, but play a large part in the success of a good painted portrait.

I have exhibited portraits in the Archibald Prize and with a number of other private and public galleries.

Commissioning a portrait can be quite scary. It is important to think through what you want or expect from the experience and to discuss this thoroughly with me.

I often find it useful to meet you first and get to know you and your ideas a lttle before work starts in a studio or in your home.

Portrait commissions can be executed in a studio in Geelong or I can travel to you.
